About Phallon
Background of the Scholarship
Phallon, originally from Detroit, MI, is a class of 2018 graduate of Spelman College. She has identified her passion within the field of psychology and received her Master's in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine in 2020. She is currently a therapist working with primarily Black women who are struggling with a wide array of mental illnesses and stressors. Phallon is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and strong believer in giving back to youth in the city she hails from.
In 2012 my grandmother who helped raise me, Rosa Blanding, was diagnosed with dementia. It broke my heart to see one of the women who has always been there, one of my heroes, slowly fall into the illness. As dementia set in, her memory began to deteriorate. At one point, she could no longer remember my name. So instead, she would refer to me as "My Angel." This is where the name "Rosa's Angel" comes from.
Both my mom and grandmother have beaten breast cancer and have been activists for breast cancer awareness amongst other causes for years. This scholarship is to honor the two women who have taught me how to give back.
On June 19, 2019, Rosa Blanding gained her wings.
As of July 2021, the Rosa's Angel Scholarship has donated over $3,500 in book scholarships to incoming college freshmen from the Detroit Metro area.
Rosa's Angel Scholarship, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Mission
The Rosa’s Angel Scholarship is committed to providing charitable support for educational and youth initiatives for the youth of the Detroit metropolitan area.
Vision
To inspire, prepare, and support Detroit youth in achieving their goals. Ultimately, encouraging them to live by “Create the dream. Sustain the legacy.”
